I had been dreaming of shooting this wedding for SO long, that I could almost see every detail that would surpass...Notice to self - never get that certain of anything ever again ;)
When I had my first consult with Jacey to discuss the details of her & Joels wedding, I nearly had heart palpatations from sheer excitement! A two day photography cover of a wedding in Canada at Christmas! OMG!
Having spent some time living in Canada in the past on a working visa, I knew just how awesome it would look with some fresh powder laid (being as the ceremony was so close to Christmas, it was basically a given). Joel & Jacey are very athletic people & it was planned that with limited light available, we would do a 'traditional' cover for the wedding day, then do a 2nd day, next day, skiing or ice skating nearby...Needless to say, we never quite made it to day 2 - yet :)
December 21, 2013. Kamloops, Canada. Not quite the shortest 'day' in the northern hemisphere... "Hercules" storm has been unleashed on the North...Oh dear me! Absolutely FREEZING COLD!
I arrived at the address I was given & stood for a moment taking in the reality of the day. Surrounded by snow, wind blowing through the pass, below freezing temps, & quiet - so quiet - I smiled thinking of the days couple. Jacey & Joel. Who flew all the way from the Summer heat in Australia for this. Specifically choosing this time of year so as to have a little snow. Yep, beware what you wish for guys :) 'A little' snow has come! Highways were closing behind me as I arrived into town. Move the wrong boulder & we could end in an avalanche...just kidding :)
But oh! what a day it was! Commotion, Christmas carols, tears, laughter, cuddles, teeth chattering cold, gorgeous surroundings, unbelievable food & amazing people. The ladies got ready at Jacey's Moms house in Rayleigh, while the guys were getting ready on the other side of town, the wedding was held in the city centre at the Kamloops Old Courthouse, followed by a quick round of photographs at the nearby Riverside Park & then finishing the evening with reception being held at Hoodoo's. We may not have achieved the 2nd day shoot (yet), but I'm so very honored to have been invited to capture the day & share in the warmth & love of your unbelievable family. Congratulations Jacey & Joel, you made a very handsome couple, & I wish you many wonderful years of happiness to come.
